<p>For years the manufacturers of sodas, candy and other processed foods have insisted that corn syrup, high fructose &#8211; <a href="http://www.pwapower.com/">high fructose corn syrup</a> &#8211; is not harmful to health because in the end, sugar is sugar.</p>
<p>But many companies that produce these foods are seeking alternatives to this notorious ingredient, as several studies have linked the corn-based sweetener to the high incidence of diabetes and obesity in the United States.</p>
<p><span id="more-376"></span>Efforts to a healthier alternative could grow stronger by the recent study published by the journal Cancer Research at the University of California.</p>
<p>This research provides the sweetener super cheap and super sweet consisting of 55% fructose and 42% of glucose is almost devoured by cancer cells. The study found that pancreatic tumor cells rapidly metabolize corn syrup, high fructose compared to glucose.</p>
<p>In 2008 the Corn Refiners Association presented an aggressive advertising campaign that belied any risk in using corn syrup, high fructose on food, calling it a simple sugar comparable to honey and sugar found in <a href="http://www.pwapower.com/3-healthy-foods-should-be-eaten-in-moderationii.htm">fruits and juices</a>.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, companies such as Gatorade, Starbucks and Pepsi are changing their recipes to stop using the controversial syrup. But it could take years to regulate its use in <a href="http://www.pwapower.com/category/health-foods">the food industry</a>.</p>

<p>4. Nutritional needs and recommendations<br />
Although the daily intake of them is not essential, since their nutritional value can be satisfied from other nutrients, are recommended intake of carbohydrates in the diet from 55 to 60% of the total energy consumed in the diet.</p>
<p>The reasons for these recommendations are based on the fact that besides being cheap, they provide immediate energy, thus avoiding the overuse of metabolic adaptation that involves the use of fats or amino acids. Moreover, it is advisable that the majority are complex carbohydrates like starches and also recommends a daily intake of more than 25 grams of fiber per person.</p>
